Yorkshire Amateur League Division 1 – Saturday 2nd March 2019
Full-time: Idle FC 0 – 3 Collegians
Goals: N/A
MOTM: C. Dawson
Idle slumped to their first league defeat of the season against Collegians today in what was a really disappointing performance. The lads were found wanting in all departments against a side who have failed to beat the Blues in 4 previous meetings between the two sides.
Despite a decent start int he first-half, Idle conceded a late goal from a corner. The ball was headed home convincingly by the striker to put the away side 0-1 up. Despite the suggestion of a push on the Idle defender, the goal stood and was a bit of a body blow for Idle just before the half time whistle.
Despite this there was a case for optimism going into the first second half after defending relatively well in the face of the long ball.
However, the second was truly calamitous. The lads showed absolutely no fight in the second half, no moments of quality which they know we’re are capable of and the Blues can be accused of stopping to the level of the opposition, resorting to long-ball tactics, completely missing out the creative players in the team.
Collegians made the most of this and capitalised on Idle’s wastefulness in possession with two counter-attacking goals to take a commanding 0-3 lead. One of which was a definite foul on Jamie Allen at centre-back which the referee somehow missed and the other with a suspicion of offside.
Despite Idle’s grievances with the goals conceded, they deserved exactly what they got in second half, making precisely zero chances of note and not testing the keeper once all game.
Overall, Idle got what they deserved out of this game as they were second best in all areas and emphatically embarrassed by the away team.
