Yorkshire Shield – Saturday 27th October 2018

Full-time: Idle FC 0 – 2 Morley Town AFC

MOTM: Tom Simonett

Idle FC crashed out of their third cup competition of the season as they played host to Morley Town in the Yorkshire Shield.

Morley are currently in the Championship division of the Yorkshire Amateur league and had made a decent start to the season so would provide useful opposition for Idle who were forced into numerous changes due to the unavailability of several players.

Tom Holmes, Danny Rosconie, Conor Halligan, Conor Swales and Jamie Allen were all unavailable but that gave opportunities to others to show their metal.

Idle edged the early encounters with TomSimonett orchestrating things at the back and Idle pushing forward looking for that first goal to settle things down. Ash Maitland fired an effort wide of the far post and after excellent play and almost in slow motion “Beanzy” Broadbent’s diving header couldn’t find the target.

Morley had been kept at bay for the majority of the game but they took the lead against the run of play as Danny Holland found himself unmarked to put Morley in front. And they made it 2-0 shortly afterwards.

This week’s Man of the Match award, sponsored by The Highfield goes to Tom Simonett.

The second half saw Idle lose possession too often which resulted in a lack of creativity in the final third. However, they did deal well with what Morley Town had going forward and so it became a frustrating afternoon as Idle never really looked like they were going to turn things around. The ame ended 2-0 to Morley.

Next week is cup week once again, this time the County Cup as Idle host Horsforth St Margarets who are in the same division as Morley Town so we will be looking for a big improvement and hopefully some players will be back to bolster the squad.
